Terror

Sadly tonight many Americans have to go to sleep worried about their safety, they worry about violence, they worry about their children's future.

These Americans are good hard working people. They obey the law, they pay their taxes, they are their brothers keeper.

But, these Americans support the Constitution and own guns. they are in terror of the power of a Government lead by fanatics who want the Constitution destroyed.

Terror is a many faceted tool. It saddens us all to know we are terrorizing one another.

Poverty by Snobbery

Del Norte County has a unique geology. Most of us know of the copper mines at Low Divide and the historical recovery of gold. Fewer still know of the platinum mines, or that diamonds have been found here. Other rare discoveries are documented too.

The truly rich body of ore though is the chrome and nickel bodies. These are critical ores for a modern society. Proposals to extract them have been on the table for decades.

Anyone who has traveled the back country knows the area of ore is not a beautiful place. Sure the distance views are inspiring, but the rock is rock. The mining would not be done on the river or in the Redwoods, not that gold dredging would hurt the river.

Our area is one of contrasts, and the homeless contrast with the prosperous well paid State Employees who make up the bulk of the economy. Often the employed look down their noses at the poor. We make fun of their clothes, modes of transportation, and pitiful begging.

How sad it is to think one of the richest regions of the world is home to poverty because of the view. Mining is the basis of any economic activity, and here the well to do refuse to consider prosperity as an option.

That's my view.

Liberty is not Freedom

In my decades as a Correctional Officer I watched people denied Freedom strive to maintain some Liberty.

And for my whole life I have been Free, but denied Liberty.  Now my Freedom is under attack too. In fact we all lost our freedom in 1913 with the passage of the income tax and the establishment of the Federal Reserve. We became economic slaves, and this is the saddest realization I have experienced as an adult.

While we are not locked up like the felons I supervised. we are not free nor do we get to enjoy the full measure of Liberty. Most of the anger and hardship all humans endure comes from the fact that we accept systems that enslave us.

Unpopular Liberty

Often the social media will have a story, with many comments, where the majority is unhappy with an act that should be tolerated in a free society. We tolerate unpopular activities so that our own unpopular activities wont become illegal too.

The average person forgets that both well manicured lawns and completely neglected lawns have their advocates and their haters.

I am setting out to blog at least one of these incidents of Unpopular Liberty a week. Be prepared to have your ox gored, but remember, it is all in the cause of promoting the greatest good mankind has yet experienced, Liberty.
